| Field Trips
No child may go on a field trip unless a "permission slip" is returned to
the school signed by the parent or guardian. Permission for a student to
attend a field trip may not be given verbally in person or over the phone.
All drivers for field trips must have a completed form on file in the ACS
office, along with a photocopy of their "driver's license" and "insurance
policy."
Foggy Day
During foggy days, the school will be open. Parents who are driving their
children should be aware as declared by the Fresno Unified School District
that on foggy days, classes will start on time, but students arriving by
9:00 AM will not be marked late.
Health
The ACS tries to maintain a healthy environment for the benefit of the students
and the teaching staff. Our parents cooperation in the following pertinent
matters of health is needed:
-
If your child has a fever, he/she is to remain at home. A child must be
fever-free for at least 24 hours in order to attend school.
-
A child with a communicable disease cannot attend school; he/she must remain
at home. Parents are asked to notify the school promptly after their child
is diagnosed as having a communicable disease. The school will notify the
parents of the children in the ill child's class in a manner in order to
alert them of their child's possible exposure. The child will be allowed
back to school after the parent/guardian receives such authorization from
a physician.
-
Parents must authorize, in writing, the dispensing of medication, and the
authorization must be on file with the school. The school will safely store
all prescribed medication. The office will administer the medicine according
to the authorized dosage if the medicine is in its original container bearing
the child's name and instructions on the pharmacist's label.
-
The school has an isolation area for children who become sick at school.
Parents will be promptly notified and asked to come and take their child
home or to the doctor.
Lice
In the event that a lice infestation occurs within a classroom, parents will
be notified.
If lice becomes epidemic then a memorandum will be issued to the whole school.
Please note that having head lice does not necessarily mean that a person
is "dirty". Transmission can occur quite easily from one affected individual
to another. Children should be instructed not to share combs, brushes, hats,
scarves, coats, and sweaters.
Treatment consists of shampooing with a special medicated shampoo. It is
recommended that all members of the family be treated. All bed linen should
be washed in hot, soapy water and dried in a hot dryer at least 20 minutes.
Clothing and mattresses should be vacuumed thoroughly. Over the counter
preparations like "Nix" or "Rid" are available.
Immunization
Parents or guardians must provide the dates (month, day, year) of each
immunization the child has received prior to registration. Parents can pick
up the immunization form in the ACS office.
Lost & Found
The school has a "lost and found" area located in the ACS office. Children
who have misplaced personal clothing and other valuables should check the
office. Coats, sweaters and other wearing apparel should have the student's
name written on the label in indelible ink. Items not claimed will be given
to a charitable organization at the end of the school year.
Lunches
The ACS provides lunches to students. Monthly menus are sent home at the
end of the previous month for students and parents to review and decide what
days the student will eat a school-provided lunch. Contact the school office
for current procedures.
Miscellaneous
All students should leave the classroom during recess and lunch hour unless
asked to stay in the room by the teacher, and then only if an adult is present.
Students being sent home from school shall report to the secretary who will
determine whether or not parents are home.
When a child is detained after school for more than 15 minutes, the teacher
should call the student's home, or send a note home with the child explaining
the reason for the detention.
Homework is given at the teacher's discretion in grades one and two. Four
times a week in grades three through six. Following absences due to illness,
teachers may assign make-up work. |
